Intellectual Property Patent Specialist

A leading law firm is seeking a Patent Specialist for one of its offices in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Diego, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. The Patent Specialist will work closely with attorneys, technology specialists, IP Section management, and staff to support both US and foreign patent prosecution, deliver exceptional client service, and serve as a resource to colleagues on IP best practices and firm policy. The role reports to the Foreign Filing Paralegal Manager and requires 60% in-office presence, with remote work permitted 40% of the time.

Responsibilities include managing US and foreign patent prosecution dockets to ensure deadlines are met; preparing and filing US, PCT, and foreign patent applications and related prosecution documents under attorney supervision; corresponding with clients, foreign associates, the USPTO, and international patent offices; coordinating assignments, declarations, powers of attorney, and other formality documents; maintaining case files; and accurately tracking billable time. The role also involves mentoring and training staff on IP practices and serving as backup to other IP paralegals.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree (paralegal certificate preferred) and 5+ years of US and foreign patent prosecution experience at a law firm, along with strong knowledge of USPTO, Patent Center, WIPO e-PCT, and foreign filing requirements. Salary ranges from $100,000 to $135,000 depending on office location.
